18th Century

Exploration and settlement of the South American continent continued through the 18th century.  Spain and Portugal were dominant in this part of the New World.  However by the end of the 18th century, much like the colonists in North America, the South American colonists were getting restless and wanted to become independent from Spain and Portugal.

The history of South America changed course in the 19th Century as independence would establish 10 South American countries.

If you live in one of the countries of South America, please share with us some 18th century history about your country.  Input we received will be compiled into additional pages with links to "read more about it".  Click on the button below to share.
