Washington

Postcard courtesy of Mrs. Barker's K-1 Class at McKinley

Dear Postcard Buddies,
Thank you for sending us postcards. We are from Tacoma, Washington. We like the Seahawks and the Mariners. We like free choice, recess, and writing in our journals. We like having centers. Mrs. Barker collects koalas. We have 18 kids in our K-1 classroom, 14 girls and 4 boys. We have an aquarium in our classroom. We have the Tacoma Dome close to school. We can go fishing in Commencement Bay and we can see Mt. Rainier from our playground.

Caption: Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument - In this lush setting, Mt. St. Helens had remained dormant since 1857 until May 18, 1980. That day, one of the most destructive volcanic explosions recorded in North America occurred, propelling debris for hundreds of miles. Mt. St. Helens has been replenishing itself and continually changing ever since.
