Origin of Name

Niccolò, a man learned in Greek philosophy, named her daughter Gaea, after the mother of the Titans (Mother Earth) in Greek Mythology. Violetta is an Italian name, meaning violet. Her middle name, Raina, has Germanic origins. Raina is a variant of regina, meaning queen. The name was chosen after a distant ancestor, who was a German empress.

Disclaimer: Gaea de Rossi is a fictional character.  While we will try to incorporate as much real cultural and factual history of the Italian Renaissance into the story, Gaea's personal references are entirely fictional.  Her relationship to Galileo and the Medici family were created to enhance the realism of the storyline.
