"Basses" was used to illustrate some informative literature about a musical event that my friend, pianist Margaret Moore was involved in.  I drew it in the 1980's.  It is ink on scratch-board.  The board is white, you brush in your media (in this case black ink) and then scratch away at the ink after it dries.  It give the impression of looking like an etching, and calls upon some of the same need to "pre-visualize" what something will look like in reverse tones, that is black where there is white and vice versa...but it sure is easier and faster than etching.  Inspiration by the way, would be Goya, Baskin and Beardsley.
