What do you teach?  What grades do you teach?

I teach Computer Class, Website design to grades 7-12 at Equity American School in Guatemala.

QUESTION:
Have you ever wanted to be in the Navy like your dad?

ANSWER from Chris Harris on 27 May 2001:
Not really, except to learn how to fly helicopters.

How many years have you been teaching?  Why did you choose this job?

ANSWER from Chris Harris on 27 May 2001:
Officially 1, but I used to teach at a summer conservation/natural sciences camp (for 7 years).  I chose this job because I like kids.

What kind of food is in your cafeteria?

Good.  Burritos, Lasagna, chicken nuggets.

How big is your school?  How big is your classroom?

ANSWER from Chris Harris on 27 May 2001:
Small. There are 50 kids in the high school.  My classroom is teenie tiny.  Our school is an old converted house and I think I'm in one of the broom closets.

What do you have to say to someone who would want your job because it is their dream?

Remember that you are doing it for the kids, and that the example you set is in many ways more important than the materials you teach - why? because it is an incredibly influential job.

When you were a child what did you want to be?  Why?

ANSWER from Chris Harris on 27 May 2001:
Never really had a "I want to be a fireman" type idea when I was a kid.  I knew I wanted to travel, and that's what I'm doing.

What is your favorite part of teaching?

Knowing that you can really light up a students interest in something they never knew about before or thought they would like.

How has your teaching career changed your life?  How has your teaching taught you?

ANSWER from Chris Harris on 27 May 2001:
It made me really realize the gift of patience.  To be a teacher, you need to be prepared.  You have to be patient.

Basketball, Traveling, Hiking, Camping, Cooking
