Beginning the Painting Process

After the glue has dried and excess sand has been removed, the entire landscape is spray painted.  Only one student at a time was permitted to spray.  Painting should be done in a well-ventilated area away from walls or other items that could catch the overspray.

With younger children, painting with tempera paint works very well.  You can also paint the entire surface before covering it with glue and sand.  Tempera paint may also be added to the glue, and a glue and paint mixture can be used to cover the board.  Most of the sand applied to the colored glue will absorb the color.
