Paoay is in the Philippine province of Ilocos. Ilocos is located at the far north of the largest of the Philippine Islands. The Philippines is made up of over 7,000 islands! The Philippine Islands are named for Felipe II (Phillip II) who was King of Spain during the colonization of the Philippines by Spain during the 16th century.

Caption: Paoay Church and Bell Tower. Gothic-Baroque-Oriental church constructed in 1704-1894 and now included in UNESCO's World Heritage List. Its coralstone bell tower served as an observation post of the "Katipuneros" during the Philippine Revolution.
