Panoramic Views

The most technical part of the project is manipulating images.  The educators were given a crash course in Image Processing.  By manipulating colors and comparing images, students will be able to determine a lot about the landscape they land on.  The more they work with the images taken by the rover on their own landscape, the better they will understand the surface they "land on".

Software is available free for download, or commercial software such as PhotoShop can be used.

Here is an example of how a series of pictures can be pasted together to form a panorama.  A panorama shot is very helpful to understand the landing site and how various images fit together.  A close-up photograph is more useful when one understands it in the context of the bigger picture.

Here is the finished panorama, created by combining all four pictures.
